2 days in Shigaraki
25.09.23

Yesterday, I finished a two-day tour of Shigaraki to a group of potters from South and Central America.
On the first day, they toured the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park (viewing an exhibition at the Ceramic Art Museum and the Artist-in-Residence program)( https://www.sccp.jp/e/), then visited the Shigaraki Museum(https://www.city.koka.lg.jp/6098.htm) where they received a lecture on the history and products of Shigaraki ware, before going to Shigaraki Share Studio.
At Shigaraki Share Studio(https://sss-shigaraki.com/), they attended a lecture and workshop by Murata Aya, who creates sculptural works using the kneading technique.
On the second day, the group split into two groups in the morning and attended workshops by Okuda Eizan at Eizan-gama(https://www.eonet.ne.jp/~eizangama/), located on the walking path, and Kanzaki Tsuguharu at Miharu-gama(https://miharugama.com/). The theme was tea bowls and tea ceremony ceramics.
After lunch at Uosen(http://uosen.net/), they shopped at Maruni Pottery Supply Shop(http://02-maruni.sun.bindcloud.jp/index.html). After that, they visited Shinohara Nozomi's studio and returned home in the evening.
I believe they thoroughly enjoyed Shigaraki. Also, the workshop by the artists from the shared studio was at the request of Yamile Abraham, the organizer of this trip, and I thought that if I could schedule it in the future, it would be good to hold workshops like this.
